shielding a strat 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 1
I've had my 74' strat since 77' and it allways made that single pick-up hum but I thought thats just the way they sounded, guess over the years I've gotten used to it. Saw an article on shielding a strat but was afraid I would screw up my guitar so I put it off as long as possible, but I finally attempted it today. it took about 2 hours to do but the silence of my pick-ups is unbelievable.I actually could play my strat on settings that could never be attempted on my amp before without the hum giving me an earache. You just have to buy some copper tape and follow the instructions on GuitarNuts.com and a strat is as quiet as a guitar with humbuckers. If anyone wants a quieter strat try shielding it.Still don't know why Fender didn't do this in the first place.Good luck!!!

Thanks for sharing! I recently built a '57 Reissue strat from Fender parts and need to do just the same as you did! Glad to know it works out ok. Thanks!
